PurpleTrain'S Pioneer Batch Shines - 1ST Online Students Graduate With UK Honours Degree

10th July 2000 – PurpleTrain's pioneer intake of Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Computing has graduated with flying colours. The top graduate from the University of Portsmouth (UOP) is Mr Muhammad Athar Shafiq, a 20-year-old Pakistani who attained a Second Class Honours Division I. The other four online students achieved no less than a sterling Second Class Honours Division II.

The UOP examination results were officially released on 1st June 2000 after stringent assessment and external moderation by the University in UK. The graduates had registered for the degree course back in May 1999, conducted through Informatics' Internet Virtual Learning University (IVLU) then.

Within a year of its inception, IVLU has expanded into a comprehensive one-stop e-learning portal. Today, through PurpleTrain.com it offers an extensive range of certificate, diploma and degree programmes in business and information technology. The first of its kind in the region, PurpleTrain.com serves as an online learning hub that brings students, businesses and education institutions together to facilitate life-long learning.

"On top of the 100% pass rate in the final year dissertation among our first batch of students, we also noted a 90% pass rate for the module, Object-Oriented Programming and Design. I believe that makes us one of the few educational institutions to be successful in teaching computer programming via the Web," commented Mr Rajinder Singh, PurpleTrain's Assistant Director.

" The success of these UOP cybercampus students is the best testimony to the power of online learning. Their results affirm the belief that excellent academic standards can just the same be achieved through this new mode of course delivery. Through self-paced study, classroom chats, asynchronous discussions and collaborative learning, these five individuals have indeed attained a milestone for themselves. Most of all, it has given the existing IVLU students the impetus to drive ahead in their pursuit of learning via the Web" added Mr Singh.

Said Dr Wong Tai, Chairman and CEO of Informatics Group and PurpleTrain.com :

"To each and every one of our pioneer UOP cybercampus students, I would like to extend to them my heartiest congratulations on their outstanding achievement. Their hard work for the past one year has truly been well-rewarded. Above all, they have indeed done themselves and the PurpleTrain team proud. "
