Top Consultants Show the Way
Singapore - 3 Course Consultants have set a blazing path for the rest to follow. Eric Khoo from Tampines Centre and Gilbert Tan from Funan Centre in Singapore and Elsa Wong from Informatics College, Yaumatei in Hong Kong are July's best performing Course Consultants for PurpleTrain programmes in July.
All three received a letter of commendation from Dr Wong Tai, Chairman and CEO of PurpleTrain.
Said Dr Wong : " These course consultants have obviously put in a lot of hard work and effort. Their dedication should serve as an inspiration to the other consultants. I hope that the others will look to them as examples and know that they can achieve the same with enough effort put in.
" E-learning is the next big wave for education. We should tap the enormous potential that this mode of learning offers. If we do not seize the opportunity and position ourselves as the leader in this area, someone else will."
These sentiments were echoed by rookie consultant Eric Khoo, who has been with Informatics for six months : " I really believe that e-learning is a very saleable product because it offers great benefits for many people from all walks of life. Getting people to embrace this new concept is not very easy. But I realised the fact that I really believe in what I am selling helps me win over skeptical potential students."
People living in Hong Kong tend to live very busy lives, this mode of studying is really suitable for the lifestyle here. I make it a point to know my programmes very well so that I can sell the advantages of e-learning to them well, " said Elsa Wong.
Added Gilbert Tan : " Believing in the product is important but so is the welfare of the customers. There is a small group of people who still prefer the traditional classroom mode of studying. For various reasons, e-learning might not be suitable for them. Acknowledge that when you talk to them and when they sense that you have their best interests at heart, they listen more readily. "
What motivates these high achieving consultants ? All agreed that besides the monetary rewards, personal satisfaction was also another prime motivator.
" Of course recognition from top management. I am touched that a busy man like Dr Wong took the time to personally write a commendation to us, " added Elsa.
Concurred Eric: " The personal recognition from Dr Wong is indeed icing on the cake. "
" It's going to be tougher and more competitive now that everyone knows that a lot of attention, particularly from top management, will be focused on PurpleTrain. But I look forward to the challenge, " said Gilbert.
And what tips do they have for the other course consultants ?
The common refrain seems to be - don't sell for the sake of selling. Target the students that will benefit most from an e-learning course and tell them of the benefits. To be able to do that well - know your product well.
Summed up Eric : " You must really believe yourself that e-learning will really help them to improve their lives. For example, tell them how internet technology can save them time. They can invest the time that they would have spent travelling to class on their studies instead.
