Informatics staff go online on PurpleTrain
441 Informatics staff in Singapore got the chance to try out e-learning from
PurpleTrain? for free. Since June, they have been issued IDs and passwords and
a month to do an e-learning course of their choice.
The online IT training courses made available to the staff are the same as those
offered to the public. The IT training courses run the gamut from MS Office to
Advanced C++ and SQL programming.
So what were some of the more popular courses chosen? They ranged from basic
courses such as Microsoft Excel, Access and Frontpage to more technical ones
like CGI Scripting and Javascript. And the most popular course? Excel won
hands down! All up, a total of 150 titles was made available to everyone.
Mr Ong Boon Kheng, Group Managing Director of Informatics Holdings Ltd said : "
We realised that although Informatics is the 'home' for PurpleTrain, not many
people had taken the opportunity to try e-learning. So now, we have given all
staff here the opportunity to try it, at no charge. At the same time, they will
be able to pick up a new skill.
" We believe strongly at Informatics that lifelong learning is important for all
of our employees personal and professional development. As a leader in training
and education, we have to take the lead in developing our own staff."
" This, hopefully will not only open the world of e-learning to them but will
also introduce them to lifelong learning. When they tell their friends about
their experience, they can talk about it first hand. Nothing is better than a
personal testimonial, " added Mr Raj Singh, Assistant Director, PurpleTrain.
"Although I work right next to the PurpleTrain team, I never had the opportunity
to actually try out an e-learning course until now. I signed up and have
completed the CGI Scripting course. Since I have family commitments, I am not
able to go to class physically after work. This is a good way to pick up a new
set of skills," said Winston Lee, Analyst Programmer of the Informatics'
International Business Unit.
"As a pioneer in e-learning, what better example than to have our staff engaged
in this mode of learning. The implementation of e-learning into their training
program complements our overall training plans for our staff. Currently,
employees also enjoy a substantial discount off all our courses. This privilege
also extends to immediate family member," said Jocelyn Chew, HR Senior
Executive, PurpleTrain.com.
