PurpleTrain Chairman launches new courses via webcast
"The Informatics Group is already an internationally recognised name in training
and education, expansion into e-learning is a natural progression. We want to
position ourselves at the forefront of this new mode of learning."
In his webcast over PurpleTrain.com, Dr Wong Tai, Chairman and CEO of
PurpleTrain.com spoke about the significance of the growth of e-learning and the
importance of it for the Group as he launched three new courses to add to
PurpleTrain's portfolio of existing courses.
Dr Wong started off the webcast emphasising the trend that has seen e-learning
become a major delivery method in the field of education and training. Citing
research statistics , he said the web-based training market is expected to grow
95% between 1997 and 2002 to be worth US$ 5.5 billion. Web-based learning will
also account for 50% of the way education is delivered, up from 25% presently.
As the fastest growing segment in the education industry, the potential for the
growth of training delivered over the internet is tremendous. Dr Wong spoke
about the need for the Group to ride this trend and position itself at the
leading edge of this new way of learning.
" We will do it through PurpleTrain.com. PurpleTrain will be the global
e-learning portal and service provider. It is positioned as an on-stop learning
portal that brings students, business, educational institutes and content
providers together. It provides the environment that facilitates anywhere,
anytime learning, " said Dr Wong.
In his speech, Dr Wong also took the opportunity to introduce several new
courses that " breaks new ground within the industry". These courses score the
distinction of being the first of its type to be introduced online.
Touching on them briefly, he said the introduction of the NCC-certified Diploma
in E-commerce and International Advanced in Computer Studies, and the IT
training courses were the result of the synergies between the Group's strong
heritage in teaching IT and business courses and PurpleTrain's experience and
position as the leader in e-learning.
He concluded his webcast by calling on all employees to take full advantage of
the opportunities this new mode of learning opens for the Group and in doing so
achieve the goal of making PurpleTrain a leading global e-learning portal.
