Profile of PurpleTrain Sales Manager - Jessie New from Malaysia
Recently, dedicated PurpleTrain.com Sales Managers have been appointed to
spearhead sales in countries with a large potential market for PurpleTrain.com products. The Sales Managers are not only the liaison persons for PurpleTrain in their respective countries, they are also tasked to co-ordinate and implement all PurpleTrain sales and marketing initiatives.
Jessie New is the appointed PurpleTrain Sales Manager for Malaysia. She started
work with PurpleTrain about a month ago.
We asked her to introduce herself and to share with us her experiences to-date
at PurpleTrain.
Q. Jessie, give us some background of yourself so that your colleagues in
Informatics who have never met you can have a better picture of you.
A. I am a Malacca girl by birth, however I moved to Kuala Lumpur, the capital of
Malaysia for my university education at the University of Malaya and have stayed there since then.
I studied mass communications at University and had every intention of embarking
on a career in broadcast journalism when I graduated. That was until I developed an interest in IT and marketing. So when an opening at Informatics became available
when I graduated, I joined them as a Higher Education Consultant.
Q. Why did you decide to join PurpleTrain.com?
A. I had been with Informatics for 3 years when I was asked if I would like to
spearhead the sales of PurpleTrain.com products in Malaysia. I jumped at the opportunity to join PurpleTrain because it offered me greater challenges - the job scope is wider - I am now handling marketing as well as management issues. I also enjoy being able to work with all levels from management to course consultants.
I was also already selling PurpleTrain.com as one of my products then and I was
really convinced that this was a major growth area for education and training.
Q. What are some of your experience with e-learning so far?
A. One of my first PurpleTrain students has been a constant source of
encouragement to me. He has been extremely pleased with his choice and he has shared with me a lot of good ideas as well as his experience with e learning. I was able see for myself his first-hand experiences. Seeing how e-learning has helped him has
really inspired me. I am very glad that the students I have personally introduced to PurpleTrain's online programme have been very happy with their course so far.
In Malaysia, the range of students studying in PurpleTrain programmes comes from a broad spectrum of professions as well as well-known organizations. I have received very positive feedback from the students that I have introduced to PurpleTrain programmes.
Q. What were some of the challenges of your new job?
A. Have to work very closely with the Authorised Service Centres (ASC)
management and the consultants to achieve the goals set. Marziah, the Business Manager from Informatics Malaysia has been helped me tremendously as she has shared with me. Our jump in sales in August was due very much to teamwork like this.
I oversee the whole Malaysian market, so one of the main challenges that I face
is the travelling that I have to do. As a woman, I do have to take extra care when I travel alone. Yes, it is very tiring and it does not leave me much personal time for myself.
But I do recognise that the most important thing for me is to train the ASC
course consultants and management so that we can really get the ball rolling on PurpleTrain sales in Malaysia.
But on the positive aspects, I have also had the opportunity to learn from all
my experiences from my travels around Malaysia.
I have already met so many interesting people in the course of my work.
Q. What would you say to people who are considering taking up an e-learning
course?
A. I would personally encourage young people to take advantage of this new way of
learning. It will open up opportunities beyond your wildest dreams. Distance and time constraints were barriers that often kept us from improving ourselves. However, the
flexibility that e learning offers erases all these barriers. With e learning,
we can embark on a continual process of learning and that is essential in today's fast moving economy if we do not want to be left behind.
Q. Could you share with us your ambitions for PurpleTrain and yourself?
A. For myself, I would like to eventually have my own business, basically because I would like to be my own boss.
For PurpleTrain, my goal is to assist it in establishing itself in Malaysia.
There are a lot of new e-learning portals coming online here and competition will become very intense. I would like to take the first-mover advantage that we have to entrench our premier position in the market.
