PurpleTrain Facilities - Upgrading In Progress

PurpleTrain has embarked on a project to upgrade our existing facilities, to be completed by end of this month. This is part of PurpleTrain's commitment to delivering even better services to our students.

Our website faced some problems two weeks ago, on 6 November 2000, Monday. In PurpleTrain's spirit of providing quality service, we have already investigated the matter. While we regret any inconvenience caused, we would like to clarify that the reasons for the failure in the chat sessions were due to unforeseen problems with SingTel. The problems arose because one of SingTel's telecom exchange stations were down that same day till 2.30pm. Below is a letter from SingTel to our network provider Cable and Wireless Network Services explaining the failure:

We refer to the above-mentioned subject and wish to apologise to you for the inconveniences caused to your operation due to the STM-1 failure of our SDH ring.

At 1130hr, we received many fault outages and our Network Management System (NMS) confirmed mass circuits failure, serving the International Business Park. Immediately, we dispatched our field engineers to site. On arrival at 1200hr, it was observed that the STM-1 system of our SDH ring at Cab 78, Synergy Building was intermittent, therefore causing the circuits to be intermittent down.

Our field engineer proceeded to replace the faulty card in the STM1 system and carried out a system reset. The links were tested to be stable and service was restored at 1400hr after the faulty card was replaced. At 1415hr, Mr John Han confirmed that all the circuits were working.

As a preventive measure, we will be reviewing your network to ensure diversity is provided and minimize any single point of failure. Our Project engineer, Patrick Lim will be contacting you on the above.
