Equal Recognition For Virtual Degrees

"Do qualifications obtained through e-learning get the same recognition as traditional modes?" That is a question that has been raised by many, at the mention of e-learning qualifications.

The answer is - YES. Online courses have and use the same course content as traditional classroom-based courses. Qualified and experienced facilitators are deployed to facilitate the online chat and discussion sessions. The number of contact hours, due to the greater convenience and flexibility of online learning, is even more frequently used and favoured.

All assignments and examination papers are moderated by university academics, ensuring that the highest level of quality is maintained for the courses and qualifications awarded by the universities.

And because of this, regardless of whether a course is taken online, through distance learning or through taught classes, they all receive the same certification. There is no differentiation at all for the various modes of learning.

To support this case, there was a recent news article that was published in The New Straits Times (NST) on 22 November 2000, stating that virtual degrees are recognised by the Public Services Department in Malaysia. The article is attached below.

Extracted from the NST article:

"The Public Services Department will recognise virtual degrees obtained through online education programmes with foreign universities?. The virtual degree would be recognised as long as the foreign university is recognised by PSD."

Dr Wong Tai, CEO and Chairman of PurpleTrain said, "In fact, as an employer I am more willing to hire an e-learning student than a class-based student. Simply because e-learning students are definitely self-starters who are independent, more mature and self-motivated."
