Technology Connects People
Not teleconferencing, but RACCOON. Yes! It is the latest technology that PurpleTrain has adopted recently.
Using RACCOON, one of the award-winning virtual classroom software, PurpleTrain recently tested on its functionality at its monthly forum held at Rose Room on 11 September 2001.
Over 50 attendants from Hong Kong, China, Malaysia and Singapore attended PurpleTrain Forum cum Award Ceremony. Also present were some representatives from Informatics Corporate Headquarter (CHQ), International Business Unit (IBU), Franchise Sales Unit (FSU), Singapore Domestic Office (SDO), including PurpleTrain’s sales force who logged in over the internet for the grand event. Some attended the event in person, some witnessed the ceremony through the internet.
The event started with anticipations ...
This is slightly different from the traditional setting. We used to call a meeting only when everybody is available in person, later with the advance of technology people start to use teleconferencing or video conferencing. And today, we are one step further. With the introduction of RACCOON, it allows better flow of communications, providing cost effective and time saving facilities which is affordable to all.
Why RACCOON?
“The new software is named after the mammal due to its unique characteristic. As RACCOON eats anytime, this communication tools can be used anytime too by any users of PurpleTrain.com,” describe Dr Wong.
The RACCOON is the survivor, who lives alongside man as if to show him that he cannot truly conquer the land. He is intelligent and determined. Students of PurpleTrain.com will soon enjoy this value-added software to enhance the existing online chat facilities.
RACCOON offers a complete set of capabilities for live e-Learning in a scalable, extensible, and easily deployed web application. It is ideal for highly interactive team collaboration, virtual classrooms, and hands-on training applications, each event can support more than a hundred simultaneous users in a live, structured environment. Therefore making the knowledge-sharing methods more fun and exciting than the traditional taught class learning.
Why E-Learning?
“Had we not have e-learning, we will be too slow for everything,” said Dr Wong Tai, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for PurpleTrain.com during his Opening Speech at the forum.
“We need to look at new ways to grow our business as a group. We need to change the existing brick-and-mortal business in a big way, to explore and employ the latest technologies…To continue to be successful, we need to learn and apply today’s new technologies."
Updates
During the one-hour forum, updates on PurpleTrain’s overall directions, technical, operations, finance developments as well as a showcase of Salem International University online completion degrees programmes were presented.
Award Ceremony
A total of 13 awards were given away during the Award Ceremony. All the top sales performers were awarded with a classy plaque presented by Dr Wong.
“This is also part of the connectivity that PurpleTrain has always emphasised on. The PurpleTrain Forum serves not only to appreciate the contributions of our staff; but also to contribute suggestions and feedback about PurpleTrain,” Dr Wong commented.
Purpletrain continuously recognises the achievements and contributions of the staff towards PurpleTrain’s success. The next PurpleTrain Forum is scheduled on 9 October 2001, 1430hrs to 1730hrs at The Rose Room, 4th Floor at Informatics Building.
