Many students who have studied at Salem International University (SIU) would have had many fond memories of their experience there. One such student is Wisnus, who graduated from SIU recently. This is what he has to say:
"I graduated from a high school in Jakarta before I furthered my studies at SIU, West Virginia to finish up my College degree in International Business. My first impression of SIU was that it was a beautiful hilly campus surrounded by forests, lakes and rivers. I used to spend my time going for rafting and hiking during the springtime, and snowboarding and skiing during the wintertime. Salem is within the driving distance to Pittsburgh, Columbus, Washington D.C and many other big cities in the east coast, which makes it easy for me to travel around.
SIU offers a wide variety of majors - Education, Athletic Management, Biotech, Aviation, Computer Science and several Business Administration specializations are available. I majored in International Business and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree.
As an international education institution, students from 32 countries attend courses at SIU. International and American students interact well. The pleasant environment at SIU makes all the cultural differences blend into one friendly community.
There are lots of activities offered at SIU for their students. I joined the Swimming Team and was the team captain for 2 years in a row and I won the national title with SIU as well. The SIU Basketball team is also ranked 4th in US for year 2000.
SIU provides Asian food daily in their Cafeteria. Rice is always available, soup and any other Asian food are also being sold close to campus. My last year at SIU was my best year because more international students were earning their degrees at SIU. I made a lot of friends while I was in SIU and learnt a variety of different cultures from different countries.

The benefits of these online programmes include the fact that :
- Students can take these courses concurrently with their diploma programmes. Students can also take up these programmes at any stage of their learning. For instance, a Diploma in Computer Studies student who wishes to pursue his or her degree can sign up for the programme upon graduation. Thereafter, he or she is required to complete 29 courses in order to earn a bachelor's degree. An Advanced Diploma graduate in a similar field, however, is only required to complete 16 courses in order to earn the degree, depending on the exemption given by the University;
- Programmes are equivalent to taught mode and classes are conducted by highly qualified professors from SIU. A small class size of 25 students per chat session will ensure smooth facilitation throughout the chat sessions;
- Short Duration of 2.5 to 3.5 years to obtain a Bachelor's degree from a Diploma level (a normal track for a taught class degree programme take a minimum duration of 4 years to complete);
- Credits earned are transferable and recognised by most US colleges and universities;
- Course fees for programmes are charged on a modular basis and students need only pay according to the number of courses taken. Course fee is at US$797 per course.
Salem International University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission, North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Completion degree options have been developed for Informatics diploma students, check out how you can pursue the Associate Degree or Bachelors of Science courses on PurpleTrain. Students with alternative qualifications will be assessed on a case to case basis.
