New Figures Show Portsmouth Proves A Popular Choice
The University of Portsmouth is continuing to prove a popular choice for students as shown by new figures submitted recently to the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).
The figures play a crucial role in deciding university funding. Universities that miss their targets can find their funding cut by HEFCE.
At 12,194 full time equivalent students, the University of Portsmouth's student numbers are well above this year's target of 11,649. It has been boosted by strong recruitment in science and technology courses.
University Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Craven, says: "We are extremely pleased that we have recruited above our student target, particularly as some universities have struggled to fill all their places this year.
"Recruiting students is increasingly competitive. The University of Portsmouth has been successful because we provide courses that give students the work-related skills and knowledge they demand, as well as investing in modern buildings and facilities."
