While many still believe that traditional classroom-based training is
the most effective way to learn and remain skeptical about its potential
for success, Tho Teon Hian already ventured into e-learning, logging
onto PurpleTrains website and tried his first e-learning course.
Having completed his Advanced Diploma In Computer Studies through Informatics
Kuching CitiCampus in Malaysia in 2000, Teon Hian decided to pursue his
degree online. Today, he is one of the proud graduates of PurpleTrain.com.
Unlike attending a traditional classroom, e-learning freed him from the
hassle of commuting from one place to another just to attend an assigned
class session, at a fixed schedule. With e-learning, attending a class
is just a mouse-click away. Teon Hian enjoyed the flexibility of anytime-anywhere-learning,
at his own convenience.
So what makes him take up e-learning? The 23-year-old e-learner said:
Im glad that Ive made the right choice. E-learning is
not only time-saving but also more cost effective, therefore making higher
education more attainable.
Most importantly of all, this is a UK honours degree. It is one
of the most sought after qualifications from UK. I really can't imagine
I can obtain such a highly recognised qualification at such an affordable
price without leaving my hometown, he further added.
According to Teon Hian, the course fees for an online Bachelor of Science
(Hons) in Computing degree programme awarded by the University of Portsmouth
(UK) is reasonable and affordable.
PurpleTrain would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Teon
Hian and all its graduates for their persistence and perseverance in e-learning.
Said PurpleTrains Executive Director Rajinder Singh "Its
our mission to bring education equally accessible and affordable to all,
helping learners overcome money, career and time constraints.
According to IDC, almost every college student has access to the Internet.
Computer usage in colleges and universities is almost a requirement at
this point. Some universities require students to have a PC upon enrollment.
By 2003, over 50% of all higher educational institutions globally will
be offering e- Learning programmes to students. (Source: Gartner Group)
Clearly, as people have less time available to study yet continue to need
training, and as technology develops and the use of the Internet continues
to grow rapidly, more and more individuals are taking advantage of the
flexibility that e-learning offers to develop their capability.
In line with its corporate mission to provide lifelong learning through
e-learning, PurpleTrain will continue to expand its efforts in e-learning
with a goal of providing quality programmes, making it as convenient as
possible to cater to the learning needs of todays learners.
