"Keep asking yourself, did you try your best to allocate some time?
How much time do you have? You will find the answer."
Do you think this is an advice from a kindly sister or an intimate friend? Judging from this tone, it’s not surprising that some of us may have thought so.
Much has been said about the spontaneous sharing between e-learners, and it is heartening to see that the exchanges extend beyond academic discussions.
Melgyn, a PurpleTrain e-learner who is currently pursuing a Higher Diploma in Business Administration (Human Resource Management) offers some tips on coping with work and studies to a fellow e-learner Joanna. Here is her posting.
"As working adults, we really have to fix a few hours each day to study no matter how busy we are. It's real hard work I know but I believe that when you receive your results, you will feel that all your hard work have been worth it!
You must keep posting your questions on the discussion room whenever you have doubts. You can write it down on a piece of paper first if you have no immediate access to a computer. Then keep checking the discussion room for other fellow mates’ postings. It is always good to read others’ postings as there might be questions that you have omitted. If you are really exhausted, spend maybe just one hour to do the things you like. You will feel recharged and ready for the books again!"
Melgyn is a Singaporean who is currently living and working in China. She has kind words for the facilitator Mr Arthur Soh too, "Arthur is strict but he is responsible and has an excellent teaching style. He prefers that we use our initiative and be proactive in our learning. Facilitators are only there to assist and not to guarantee that we will pass the exams."
Besides enjoying the process of learning, and the discussions with her facilitators and coursemates, Melgyn reveals that the most exciting part of the course is the ability to interact with people from all over the world.
"Through our interaction, I can learn and understand more about their behaviour, their living environments, cultures and mindsets. I think this is especially helpful to me as I specialise in Human Resource Management. If I had known about E-learning earlier, I would have signed up long ago."
