Caring facilitators a plus for e-learning!

Ng Chee Lam, currently enrolled in the Advanced Diploma in Computer Studies course wrote to PurpleTrain to let us know how much he valued the help of his facilitators. Through his email, we can see that his success in the course is a win-win situation for both student and facilitator.

Dear Facilitator-Michael,

I am surprised and very happy to receive your mail via PurpleTrain Private Mail facility. Thanks for your concern on my studies and compliments and I appreciate the concern.

I still can remember vividly when I first enrolled in the CIC course with PurpleTrain after graduating from my GCE-O level. You were my first facilitator who was in charge for all the CIC modules. After a few sessions in the chat room, I gained a lot of knowledge from your presentation, your adept ability with language and the style of your presentation has largely enhanced my language competence. During the CIC course, I realized that you were actually very concerned of my academic progress and you had also encouraged me to advance my studies to the diploma level in computing.

After much deliberation on your advice, I finally decided to enroll in Diploma in Computer Studies (DCS) with PurpleTrain which I started in the first term of this year. The facilitators I met were Ms.Sharifah, Mr.Fong and Mr Hussain.

Ms Sharifah was truly a nice person who was easy to get along with. The 3 chat sessions for computer system really took me by surprise. There was a lively exchange of ideas and information!

For Program Design, the facilitator Mr. Fong is also very concerned for my studies and he was willing to check for my trial assignment and revise the lessons.

The most compelling lessons I had were software and information processing module which was under the facilitation by Mr Hussain. He was indeed a good facilitator who always assisted me and other classmates by providing extra notes, advice on exams and tests preparation and he was very sociable as well. Mr. Hussain always encouraged me as he believed I could do well for my exams.

I studied very hard in the whole term and hoped for doing the best in the exam. Finally, I obtained A's for both Computer system and Software and Information Processing and a B for Program Design. I was truly happy for that achievement.

The next term (second term in 2002), I enrolled myself in all the rest of the modules in DCS which were Mathematics for computing, web publishing with HTML and JavaScript, C programming, Multimedia, Developing a website and Introduction to computer. I confessed that it was the toughest and stressful time I had with the course as there were 6 modules to cope with in a single term. I chose to do all the modules in the same term.

In my studies, I faced difficulties as it was difficult to find IT or programming books like C, JavaScript or other authoring tools in my area in Malaysia. When I have any difficulties, I would ask my module facilitators. I am very thankful to my DCS facilitators like Soon, Mani, Ms May Kang, Ms Cally, Lakshmi and Mohsin. They had been very concerned for me and also assisted me many times in many ways. Without their help, it would be impossible to cope with the modules.

With the pre-moderated coursework result released recently, I am confident to hope for all A's in the 6 modules I taken. It is totally out of my expectation. At least I know what I have done so far is worthwhile.

Michael, I wanted to thank you again for advising me to make a right decision to pursue my course with PurpleTrain. Now, I really see the results. The staff at PurpleTrain are very fast in answering my questions and delivering the textbooks to me on time. There have been many times I wrote to Exam department to request for advice on certain matters, after sending the queries, I received the replies in about 15-30 minutes. From this aspect, I am very thankful to every department in PurpleTrain for replying my message promptly.

As for a full-time student like me, this study method frees me from a strict schedule and it is economical as I do not need to pay for extra accommodation and travel fees like my other friends who are pursuing ADCS via traditional class. Most importantly, I could feel the comfort and value of the family.

Michael, although I felt it took a great effort, I am contented. I look forward to participate and benefit from your class again.

Thanks and regards,

Ng Chee Lam
