Happy graduates have their say!
|
|
Congratulations
to all of our PurpleTrain graduates on their recent achievements!
It was a
graduation ceremony filled with full of happy graduates, among them
PurpleTrain graduates, who did it the e-Learning way! The event,
held on 10 November 2002 at Kallang Theatre was indeed a momentous
occasion for parents and siblings of the graduates who attended
the ceremony.
PurpleTrain took the opportunity to interview several of our successful
students on what they
thought of e-Learning. Here is an excerpt from our First Class
Honours UOP graduate
Mr Munnamgi Venkatan Reddy's speech at the graduation ceremony:
When I took up the course with PurpleTrain.com,
e-learning was a new experience in my life. Initially, I felt strange
studying in front of the computer and contacting fellow students and
lecturers online seeing only my classmates during examination time.
But E-learning is a different world that I wanted to experience and
I am glad to be standing in front of all of you to share how e-learning
is an exciting and rewarding way to achieve an education.
PurpleTrain.com learning management system
has many interactive capabilities of the web which gave me and my
fellow classmates the chance to question the lecturer, exchange ideas
with one another and even work together as teams. While there was
no face-to-face contact, the learning platform via the Internet provided
rich opportunities for scheduled discussions and dialogues.
I have said enough of my e-learning experience
and I would like to leave you with this thought If ever some day,
someone, comes to you and say "I want to study anywhere anytime,
anyplace"
I hope your answer will be PurpleTrain.com".
When asked to give his views, another University of Portsmouth
(UOP) graduate Mr Isa Raffee, Lead Engineer with Sun Microsystems:
"What I liked most about e-Learning
is the
convenience! I also found the PurpleTrain chat sessions and discussion
rooms useful in helping me in the course. I found that in e-Learning,
time management and lots of discipline is crucial for success."
When asked how e-Learning has affected his lifestyle, Isa commented
that "I'm proud to have experienced
e-Learning!"
Having similar needs in flexibility and convenience was what made
Mr Soh Hoo Seng, a Project Manager with Keppel Engineering
choose e-Learning through PurpleTrain. "I
enjoyed the help I obtained from online facilitators as they provided
me with all the necessary guidance. I also found that the chat sessions
and discussion rooms useful as it serves to reinforce one's progress
in the course." When asked if they wanted to take
his education one step further after getting his UOP degree, he
commented that he intended to do his Masters degree in the near
future.
Another UOP graduate, Ms Tam Kong Chee, a programmer based
in Kuala Lumpur, also was
impressed by the flexibility offered by getting her degree through
e-Learning. Asked about her experience on e-Learning, Ms Tam said
"I had a good experience throughout this course and intend to
pursue further studies to learn more as part of my career goals."
In addition, she was asked if she would recommend her friends, family,
colleagues or neighbours to take up e-Learning courses, she replied
"Yes, and I have already done so!"
Miss Wong Fang Fang, fellow UOP graduate and Senior Software
Technician, who works split
shifts had this to say about e-Learning: "I
felt it was really an exciting mode of study, it saves time coupled
with the convenience - no need to take transport /travel to school
after work." She was asked what she liked most about
e-learning? Her answer: "the accessibility
of simply logging in to get to school and the notes are always on-line,
no need to queue to photocopy notes." The course held
a big surprise for Miss Wong: "I was
surprised that during the course, some students were very dedicated,
participated and shared their knowledge, their working experience
helped to liven up the class & learning experience."
As we have many other graduates with insightful comments, we will
continue publishing their comments in another news release to follow.
Once again, we congratulate all PurpleTrain graduates for their hard
work and perseverance and being trailblazers in their own right.

More graduates give
their affirmation of e-Learning!
|
|
Congratulations go out to more of our PurpleTrain University
of Portsmouth (UOP) graduates on their recent achievements!
After an interview done with some of the graduates, many loved
getting their education through e-Learning! Their responses
all reveal that e-Learning provides maximum flexibility to
any student that has had to juggle working life with study
time. In their responses, you will also
find that many students have found the tips and suggestions
offered via discussion rooms, chat rooms or bulletin boards
by facilitators useful.
Here are some of the unedited responses from several of our
beaming
graduates on what they thought of e-Learning.
Mr PY Terng, UOP 2nd Class Honours graduate on why
he chose e-Learning: "The
advantage that I found was that I could arrange my own study
schedule plus I was still able to pursue my education even
when I was travelling, all I needed was an Internet connection."
On why he chose this course: "I
was looking for a program that allowed me to get an IT academic
certification in the short time. Finally, I found UOP program
from PurpleTrain which allows me to do so, and I have proven
that I am able to do complete my study within one and half
year time, without re-sitting any papers!"
Mr Yeap Peng Teng, Senior Software Technician with
Dell Asia Pacific, another fellow graduate with irregular
working hours
had this to say about his e-Learning experience through PurpleTrain:
"The time for learning is flexible,
I can learn and study from anywhere"
On the course facilitators: "The
response from facilitator is very fast, information is clear,
and they are professional all the time.
On whether he would recommend his friends/families/colleagues
to take up a PurpleTrain course:
"Yes, I like to share my experience of this course with
them."
Another student Mr Goh Kee Hong, was asked what he
liked most about e-Learning through PurpleTrain? "Freedom
to plan how to study, when to study and where to study. One
benefit of e-learning is that less time is wasted on traveling
from office or home to classroom. I can log in at home or
office to look at the lecture notes and the discussion board.
I can arrange with my course mate to have a group discussion
during the weekend (when I do not need to work). For classroom-based
system, I do not have this kind of freedom."
As we have highlighted in an earlier news release, graduates
had a lot of good things to say about e-Learning. We will
continue to publish their comments as and when we receive
it. Once again, we congratulate all PurpleTrain graduates
for their perseverance and for blazing a trail for others
to follow.

E-Learning works for
me!
|
|
Among other things, proof is in the pudding when it comes
to getting a quality education. After all, one can safely
attest
to the fact that e-Learning works after having gotten a first-hand
experience. At PurpleTrain, we felt that our efforts paid
off
when we received this encouraging email from a graduating
student from the year 2002 batch. Mr Aw Kee Woon, recently
graduated with a University of Portsmouth Second Class Division
degree had this to say about his e-Learning experience.
Dear Sharon,
Thank you for your prompt reply. Please keep me posted if
you get any information on the graduation in UK. Regarding
my experience studying with PurpleTrain (PT), I can only say
that it was a new experience for me as well as a rather interesting
and eye-opening one. I enjoyed it thoroughly and would definitely
recommend it to whoever is interested in pursuing higher studies.
One just need to be interested and determined to succeed.
Another point is, AGE should never be an excuse for not wanting
to learn. There is no time limit for education...we need to
learn all
the time.
Regards
Aw Kee Woon
Well said, Kee Woon! It just goes to show that lifelong learning
is indeed for all of us. It also reinforces the fact that
when we need to learn, e-Learning is flexible enough to accommodate
our busy schedules. Thus, a note to all existing students
and future e-Learning students who's wondering about e-Learning,
you should try out this new medium of education and find out
how e-Learning can work for you!

The
advantages of e-Learning
|
| |
|
These days, everyone's leading busy
lifestyles that demand a lot of attention and precious time.
The good news is, there's e-learning for those who's looking
for a good way to further their education. Many users of e-learning
have conveyed the various reasons why e-learning works for
them. Here are some of them:
- Require no or little commuting
which saves time and money. Less time in car means less
gas burned and less car maintenance.
- Allow you to complete course work
when it is convenient for you. Do work where and when you
want to.
- Taken from home means savings in
child car costs.
- Are learner centred. Pacing, sequencing,
style of the learning experience are left up to you.
- Offer easy access to learning resources.
The teacher, other students, library are only a click away.
- Allow learners to access enrichment
content of personal interest.
- Lead to an advanced degree that
will result in increased career salaries.
- Directly address physical accessibility
issues such as access to buildings, sitting in uncomfortable
chairs.
- Are great equalizers. You will work
with fellow class members without regard for appearance,
race, sex, ethnicity, or other common prejudices.
- Allows a broader perspective by
interacting with people from other parts of the world.
- Will teach you project management
along with distance collaboration skills. These skills will
help you work on virtual teams on your jobs.

Improved features
for PurpleTrain's Learning management System
|
|
PurpleTrain.com has adopted a new look
for its Learning Management System (LMS). Following its first
website revamp in August this year, PurpleTrain has further
refined its LMS system.
With the new look, users can now enjoy smoother navigation
as there are large visible buttons on the side bar and that
will bring users directly to the desired page faster. The
most significant change many will notice is the improved response
time and addition of one button on the side bar - 'HOME'
The inclusion of a new HOME button allows users to
get back to the previous page without having to click the
BACK button. Furthermore, all other buttons are self-explanatory.
This is especially useful, as it will certainly cut down the
time wasted in searching and finding the right information.
PurpleTrain believes that there's always
room for improvement. This is part of our continuing efforts
in bringing the best for our students and providing value-added
services. We invite all students to try out the new LMS to
get used to the new look and feel! Log on to www.purpletrain.com
to feel the difference.
