PurpleTrain.com
The BIGGEST e-Learning Solution Provider in the World outside the US! What’s the secret?
The success of PurpleTrain.com is attributed to, among other things, its choice of lecturers and facilitators of the highest caliber. Many have the misconception that e-Learners are left to struggle on their own to swim or sink. NOTHING CAN BE FURTHER AWAY FROM THE TRUTH. The truth of the matter is that e-Learning is enhanced by participating facilitators that, as the name suggests, facilitate a student's learning process.
PurpleTrain identifies outstanding facilitators each quarter and awards them with the PurpleTrain Best Facilitator Award to appreciate them for their outstanding efforts.
The PurpleTrain Best Facilitator Award is based on the following measurement criteria:
- Reliability
- Responsiveness to chat and discussion rooms
- Level of interactivity
- Compliance to e-Learning governance and deadlines
This quarter, a total of 6 facilitators who have not only fulfilled their roles as facilitators but have gone out of their way to enhance students' learning process through a variety of ways.
The consistent high results achieved by PurpleTrain's students is not a coincidence; facilitators have played a big role in making this possible. Our facilitators' unwavering dedication to students is indeed admirable. PurpleTrain is confident that all facilitators will continue to offer students the right mix of academic support and additional encouragement to guide them through the provision of a holistic educational experience.
Dr Charles Englehardt, Assistant Professor
Department of Management Studies, Salem International University
"As a full-time professor teaching online and in the classroom, I have no choice but to spread my work over all hours of the day and night. Some people have accused me of being a 'workaholic', however it simply means that I am not satisfied unless I have done my best to produce excellent outcomes. I am truly motivated by the rewarding nature of teaching - the potentially far-reaching effects of my efforts as a professor is a powerful inspiration."
Dr Annita Ward, Lecturer
"The main problem I find in teaching both on-campus and online is that I have to be aware of the 12-hour time differential. The first thing I do when I get up in the morning, before I get ready to teach on-campus is to check for messages from my online students. This is also the last thing I do at night! Many of my students' waking hours, I am asleep and vice-versa. I do try to know both sets of students as individuals and am interested in students in both places."
Dr N. Krishnamoorthy, Senior Lecturer
Graduate Study Department, Informatics Computer School
"Students in the physical classroom sometimes have hesitations and are reluctant to ask questions; I rarely receive questions while teaching in class as students prefer for doubts to be cleared privately. Online students however, are more active through the discussion box and the "Private Message System" provided by PurpleTrain. In e-Learning, facilitators have to put in the extra effort to monitor and continously track students' progress to make sure that they are on the right path."
Johnny Tan, Lecturer
Thames Business School Singapore
"The uniqueness of online facilitation includes the feature of 'anytime, anywhere' learning. I will log on to PurpleTrain to answer students' queries as and when I have spare time - in during lunch, or even at home before sleeping. I just want to help students who are really busy at their work, yet have a strong desire to acquire knowledge / skills through e-Learning. Our students are scattered all around the world but come together to communicate through PurpleTrain like one big
global family."

Armed Forces by Day, E-Learning by Night
And sometimes it's the other way around for First Sergeant Jonathan Lim of the Singapore Armed Forces. This is especially so if he is on night jungle training or even an overseas stint. In between his hectic army schedule, Jonathan pursues his Bachelor of Science in Computing with the University of Portsmouth via PurpleTrain.com.
Being a non-married personnel, he is required to stay in-camp and only gets to go home for the weekend. Work literally becomes 24-hours on-call. And because Singapore's military personnel regularly train in Australia, Taiwan and Brunei, he is overseas at least 2 or 3 times a year for as long as 2 months on each occasion.
When Jonathan decided to pursue his further studies, he realized that anything with scheduled classroom lessons was out of the question. E-Learning was his only option and even so, precious study time could only be squeezed in between his haphazard training schedules and overseas assignments. The hard-driving trainer who strikes fear and awe amongst his trainees has even resorted to carrying a school bag with him around camp - just so he could grab whatever free moments to catch up on this studies. "I tell my trainees I'm a school boy again", jokes the swinging single.
He cannot imagine being able to pursue his degree if not for the availability of e-Learning. Its total flexibility allows Jonathan to adjust and fit his studies into his busy military career. He figured that if he had to attend regular classes, he would probably be absent most of the time.
The biggest adjustment that Jonathan had to make to his lifestyle was his social calendar. The self-confessed party animal has been taking the unfamiliar rain cheque of late, in order to make time for his studies. "My friends have been giving me that incredulous 'huh?' look whenever I tell them I have to study", laments Jonathan. "Even movies and TV time have to be cut down."

E-Learning in Sunny Maldives
In the sunny island paradise of Maldives there are NO UNIVERSITIES. The only available option for post-secondary education would be to go overseas. But Systems Administrator, Shamin Ahmed, has found a better, more convenient and cost effective method to pursue his further studies. Shamin is an e-Learner with PurpleTrain.com, in the Bachelor of Science in Computing programme.
Prior to signing up with PurpleTrain.com, Shamin spent 3 years overseas, at considerable expense, to earn his Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Computer Studies. Then he discovered the e-Learning option and decided to pursue his degree via this method as it would allow him to work and gain practical experience at the same time. If not for the e-Learning option, Shamin would have had to spend at least another one and a half years overseas to get his bachelor degree.
Shamin works in the capital, Male, for Universal Enterprises, a resort hotel group. He supports 150 users on his company's IT network which means he is perpetually on-call 24/7. The convenience and flexibility of e-Learning allows him to juggle the demands of his job and his studies.

"Even if I miss a chat session because of work commitments, I can still download the logs later and study what was discussed on my own. I think it is the best way to further your studies if you are working. And for a place like Maldives which does not have any local avenues to pursue a tertiary education, I think it is the perfect solution for its student population."

A Higher Calling Kazakhstan
In the city of Almaty, Southeastern Kazakhstan, you might bump into a rare Singaporean couple - Joseph Tan and his wife, Sharon. Joseph and Sharon have been working as volunteer teachers in Kazakhstan since 2001.
But while Joseph answers his higher calling in Kazakhstan, he also realises that he needs to keep his skills current and updated since he expects to move on to other countries when his volunteer work in Kazakhstan is completed. That is why Joseph is furthering his education via e-Learning on PurpleTrain.com.
Since Joseph expects to be working in other countries in the future, he needs a degree that is recognised in as many countries as possible. E-Learning allows Joseph to continue his volunteer work in a 3rd world country and yet pursue an internationally recognised qualification.
"I might miss a class sometimes but I never have to miss a lesson since everything is logged and I can download it later for self-study. Sometimes I do get so overwhelmed by work that I do not realise a test is just around the corner!" He also emails his facilitators whenever he has any questions and is very pleased with the efficiency of the replies he gets.
Joseph and Sharon certainly have their hands full with their volunteer work and we at PurpleTrain.com wish them all the best in Kazakhstan and wherever their calling takes them.
