| PURPLETRAIN.COM ROADSHOWS - A HUGE SUCCESS!
PurpleTrain.com had embarked on a series of roadshows targeted at Informatics Group's internal staff, trainers and lecturers. Kicked off on 10 Nov 2000, these roadshows were conducted with the purpose of educating the ASCs on PurpleTrain, and to update them on the latest developments and services available on the e-learning portal. Very importantly, the roadshows also provided a Q&A platform whereby the course consultants can have their doubts and queries answered personally by the PurpleTrain team.
Spearheaded by Dr Wong Tai, CEO and Chairman of PurpleTrain.com and the Informatics Group, the first two roadshows held in Singapore at Dhoby Ghaut and Plaza by the Park were received with overwhelming response, and subsequently, another two were held at Tanjong Pagar (Singapore) and also in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).
The program line-up covered a range of topics, with Dr Wong kicking off the whole session with an opening speech and an impactful presentation on why e-learning will take the world by storm. May Soh, Executive Director of SDO also delivered a speech on the directions and role of the centres in promoting PurpleTrain. A speech was then made by Wan Ling, Sales Manager of PurpleTrain on how course consultants can better handle their customers and counter argue them. Following that, Jolyn Chua, Marketing and PR Manager of PurpleTrain, presented some of the intensive development work that goes on at PurpleTrain to make e-learning a breeze for students. Mike Khoo, Assistant Manager (Projects) of PurpleTrain took everyone on a quick tour of some of the key facilities and tools available on PurpleTrain.
The key highlight of the two roadshows was the Q&A session, which saw very lively exchanges and interaction between the audience and the PurpleTrain team. Many of the facilitators also provided us with very valuable positive feedback on their experiences and beliefs in e-learning.
The PurpleTrain roadshows will be roaming from one centre to another in Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong, in order to create a greater awareness of PurpleTrain.

PURPLETRAIN INTRODUCES E-RESOURCES FOR STUDENTS
PurpleTrain has yet again added another new service to its extensive e-learning portal, a section called "e-Resources". Found in the Student Services segment on the left navigation bar, e-Resources is a one-stop directory of all the various websites that are most relevant to our students.
e-Resources provides a whole array of useful links to other websites, ranging from books, employment, travel, news & information and services. These hyperlinks open the doors to additional resource to our students for more services and information.
Students can get up-to date information on news and services for them that are outside of PurpleTrain. "After all, the Internet is all about information and connectivity to the world, and PurpleTrain also sees this need in the current web-based economy," says Raj Singh, Assistant Director of PurpleTrain.com.
There will be certainly more things coming up, so keep your ears and eyes posted!

PURPLETRAIN FACILITIES - UPGRADED!
PurpleTrain has embarked on a project aimed at upgrading the online facilities, with the final phase to be completed by Jan 2001. This is part of PurpleTrain's commitment to continuously deliver even better services to our students.
Among the various newly upgraded facilities is the chat room facility. PurpleTrain has migrated its current chat platform to a brand new chat platform. This new chat is very stable, and has an ability to support many more multiple users at one time. The chat interface will also be slightly different in appearance, and will now sport a clean, contemporary look with a default white background in the chat window.
Other than that, the normal functions of chats are still in place in this new platform. Besides supporting synchronous chats between groups of facilitators and students, the new chat facility also allows private chats to take place, enabling students to have separate chat sessions with their coursemates or facilitators simultaneously.
Hence, with the new upgraded chat facilities, you can definitely look forward to uninterrupted and smoother chat sessions. So check your chat schedules and experience the new chat facility yourself!

LAUNCH OF IGCOL.COM - AN E-VOLUTION IN OPEN LEARNING |
The Informatics Group Centre for Open Learning (IGCOL), launched its e-portal on 6 December 2000, IGCOL.com; bringing higher education onto the information super-highway to meet the learning needs of the new IT-powered economy.
A joint partnership between IGCOL and PurpleTrain.com, IGCOL.com will share the bulk of the facilities and services available on the PurpleTrain portal. Aimed at providing students with "e-convenience", IGCOL.com taps onto the facilities and resources of PurpleTrain.com, to deliver a comprehensive e-learning portal that offers some of the world's most reputable courses and programmes. It is a revolutionary learning experience that provides the flexibility and ease that were previously impossible with learning methods of the past.
This e-convenience will give IGCOL the leading edge in administering and facilitating e-learning in all its distance learning programmes that will be especially useful for busy working adults. The costs and hassles of pursuing higher studies with renowned universities are significantly reduced with the easy accessibility of knowledge and e-facilities. In addition, communication with facilitators and classmates can now be hosted through discussion rooms, opening the windows to limitless interaction and learning beyond the classroom.

DISCUSSION ROOMS - MOST POPULAR INTERACTION TOOL ON PURPLETRAIN
PurpleTrain provides three key tools to enhance the learning process of the students, primarily discussion rooms, chat sessions and private email facility. These tools provide a platform through which students and facilitators can interact freely with each other and share their knowledge and views on the subjects.
Unlike face-to-face interaction in class-based, these online tools are virtual, hence actually encouraging students to be more expressive and less inhibited in voicing their doubts. As one facilitator, Dr Krishnamoorthy pointed out, "Students will actually keep asking questions until they fully comprehend the topics and until their doubts are clarified. So they are actually more inquisitive and determined about learning."
We found that among the three interaction tools, the most popular facility is the discussion rooms. The discussion room is favoured for its flexibility, as students can post up their queries or uncertainties on the subject at hand and the facilitator will reply to the posted question within 24 hours. Facilitators also utilise the discussion room to post questions to the students to encourage participation and discussions among the students. Students can then view the replies from the facilitators later on by checking the discussion room whenever they are free.

ONLINE VISA AND MASTERCARD PAYMENTS - VERY POPULAR ON PURPLETRAIN
Since online VISA and MasterCard payments were introduced on PurpleTrain, there has been a sharp conversion through online payments via VISA and MasterCard. An average of 35% of all payments for course fees and exam fees are now paid online by students.
Besides the sheer convenience of online payments, e-payments are very popular because students can be assured that all the online transactions are highly secure on PurpleTrain, using advanced SSL encryption processes, to eliminate any possibility of fraud or tampering.
This greatly speeds up the payment process as students no longer need to get a bank draft to make their fee payments. Apart from that, there is also the added benefit that students will actually save on the bank charges that are incurred to obtain the bank drafts, because for online payments, there are no additional charges at all. Whichever mode of payment is used, students still have the option of paying for the course fees on an instalment basis.

PurpleTrain launched a new online sales tracking system on 29 November 2000. This is part of the PurpleTrain's continuous efforts to conduct all operations through online methods. This online method will greatly enhance the tracking process of all sales activities and help deliver greater productivity.
All sales personnel are required to fill up the online tracking form on a daily basis. This tracks in detail the number of call-ins, call-outs, walk-ins, preview talks, sign-ups etc for PurpleTrain. This online tracking system enables a centralised and speedy monitoring of the daily sales activities that take place daily.
