PurpleTrain.com Gives Its Female Students
the Stamp of Approval!

"Women and IT just don't click". Hands up all of you who have said anything to that effect.

Ladies are often stereotyped as weak in anything concerning computers; the men, on the other hand, have been given the label as the more IT-savvy gender. Undoubtedly there are some women (and men) who don't know the difference between megabyte and megapixel. They probably have the extension number of the IT department on speed dial as well.

However, while there are people who are contented with the bare minimum and are happy as long as their emails get sent out with the right attachments, there are also those who have not let anything stand in the way of an education through the online method of learning.

PurpleTrain.com gets up close and personal with three ladies from Singapore to find out what drives them.

The ladies
Janet Lo, Freelance Software Consultant and Advanced Diploma in Computer Studies student

Shirley Lim, Assistant Manager, Supply Chain Management, and Higher Diploma in Business Administration student

Adelin Tan, Planner and Advanced Diploma in Computing student

PurpleTrain (PT) : What characteristics of e-Learning were particularly beneficial to your lifestyle circumstances?
Janet : Flexibility! In the aspect of time management and the ability to adjust my own study pace.

Shirley : The thing I like most is the time saved on travelling. No more long journeys to and from classes!

Adelin : Flexibility definitely. If there isn't an e-learning option, I might not be able to due to my tight work schedule.

PT : How has e-learning through PurpleTrain.com has affected your life?
Janet : I wasn't coping very well in the beginning because I could not catch up with programming subjects which required plenty of practice. I've stumbled over my fair share of obstacles but now PurpleTrain has made learning very natural to me. It's become part of my life!

Shirley : I've learnt to be self-motivated. It's so different from going to classes where you have peers to "pressure" you.

Adelin : My job takes up a lot of my time therefore its really quite tough to be studying concurrently. With no teachers spoon-feeding answers, PurpleTrain has made me more independent!

PT : Any advice to others contemplating e-Learning?
Janet : For those who want freedom, e-Learning is definitely a better choice. No more struggle to split yourself between maintaining relationship with loved ones and friends, and achieving your passion to keep up with the changing world

Shirley : Go for the e-Learning alternative if you have good time management. Self motivation is essential in order to complete the course.

Adelin : E-learning requires a lot of discipline. You have to really make yourself sit in front of the computer and do your work because there won't be anyone pushing you. But your hard work will definitely pay off!
