"Mortarboards away!" - A Celebration of Success at the Informatics / PurpleTrain.com Graduation Ceremony
|
On
Sunday, Malaysian student Chiew Vee Tian,
top graduate of the University of Bachelor of Science (Hons) in
Computing from the University of Portsmouth tossed his mortarboard
in the air at the Informatics Graduating Ceremony in recognition
and acknowledgement of the hard work and achievements of the graduating
students.
He
was joined by over 4,500 Diploma, Bachelor's and Master's Degree
graduates, with their family and friends attended the Graduation
Ceremony on Sunday 16 November 2003. Camera flashes were
aplenty throughout the ceremony as the graduates each savoured their
moment of pride and glory when they each walked up on stage to a
thunderous applause.
The Ceremony, held at the Kallang Theatre, Singapore, saw a mixture
of emotions - tears of joy and sighs of relief - from the pool of
graduates who received their certificates from the respective University
Partners and Validating Bodies who graced the Ceremony.

Dr Neal officially declared the Ceremony open with his motivating
speech and offered his heartiest congratulations to all graduates,
encouraging them to savour the joy of this major accomplishment
in their lives. He also extended the invitation for graduates to
stay connected through the Alumni Association.
Professor Whitaker stated in his welcome speech, "Graduation

to your success to be recognized and acknowledged." He
went on to encourage all graduates to serve as ambassadors through
their future conduct and achievements.

"We're delighted to have been a part of the lives of so
many students. It is indeed our honour to award each and every one
of these true believers of lifelong learning for their unending
quest for knowledge and education," said David Wang, Director,

academic quality.
In
his speech, Vee Tian, the top graduate of the PurpleTrain.com cohort,
said, "We may be from different backgrounds, different countries,
different races and religions, and have different reasons for taking
up this course, but we all had one common motivational factor -
the quest for self-actualization, and the hunger for a degree. It
is this common goal that has bonded us, despite the geographical
barriers that separate us."
How rightly put, Vee Tian! We wish you, and all graduates, the
very best in your future endeavors and look forward to remaining
a part of your pursuit of lifelong learning!
