|
More
and more Singaporeans are taking up e-Learning as revealed in the
Annual Survey of Infocomm usage in Households and by Individuals
for 2003 by Infocomm Development Authority
of Singapore ("IDA"), recorded a hefty increase
of 14% from 15.7% in 2002.
According to Pacific Learning, which compiled data from the US
Army, United Technologies, Federal Express and Xerox, e-Learning
is 60% faster than classroom learning. Content retention is 25%
to 60% higher. Learning gains are purported to be 56% greater, and
consistency of learning is said to be 56% better. E-Learning also
allows training to be delivered 38% to 70% faster.
Industry analysts at IDC researched and concluded that e-Learning
will constitute 40% of IT training market by 2005. It conducted
a study of 250 companies in Asia-Pacific region and noted that while
some companies still need to be convinced of the benefits, the adoption
of e-Learning will increase as content improves and localization
issues are resolved, and as the use of the Internet increases and
telecommunications costs go down.
