"Fun" - not a word that we hear a lot these days. For the very fact that we've all been buried deep in the hustle and bustle of life for far too long. But Singaporean Peterson Tan has managed to enjoy the learning process despite his heavy social commitments.
Having to travel a fair bit for business purposes, Peterson, the Regional IT Consultant of an American MNC, states the main benefit of e-Learning to him as "convenience". Says Peterson," PurpleTrain.com makes pursuing a degree easier. I do not have to worry about rushing to classes after work or having to miss classes when I have to do some business travels."
"It's a great experience doing an educational programme through e-Learning. It's like having a school within your home - It's all within your control. You decide your modules to take each term; you schedule your time to study," says Peterson, who juggles the role of employee, father and husband. Peterson is currently working on his final project in the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computing programme with the University of Portsmouth via PurpleTrain.com.
Attending the virtual chat sessions allows him to clear out his doubts real-time with facilitators. "In a normal classroom situation I don't usually ask questions but in the online chatrooms, I have no fear of raising stupid questions at all!" Peterson finds the quality of the interaction exceptionally good and the facilitators extremely helpful. He's made friends with classmates situated as far as Nepal in the course of his study.
When asked about his secret of success, Peterson has this to say,"Self discipline and good of fashioned study, study and more study! It's not difficult to get through the course as long as you bear these two things in mind." And just as a gauge for all learners out there, Peterson allocates 2 hours on both days of the weekend to study.
